The Truth about Hair Transplantation

Hair Transplantation is an innovative surgical procedure that was first performed in the US in 1952.  It is done by taking individual hair follicles from the back of the scalp (known as the donor site) and moving them to bald or balding areas.  Throughout the years since its inception, the procedure has evolved significantly, but has also developed many misconceptions.  Here’s a list to separate some of those misconceptions from the facts:

FICTION: It's easy to tell if someone has had a hair transplant.
FACT: Though in the past this may have been true, with new techniques it's actually quite difficult to notice.

FICTION: Hair transplants are not cost effective.
FACT: When considering the long-term benefits of the procedure, you must understand once you have it done, it's permanent.  Having a hair transplant can be cheaper than taking years of medicines in an attempt to keep or re-grow hair.

FICTION: Hair transplants aren't permanent.
FACT: Since hair is taken from an area that has proven to resist hair loss, it is actually unlikely to fall out.

FICTION: Transplanted hair falls out.
FACT: Because it is a surgical procedure, hair grafts are surgically put into place so they are assured to be permanent.

FICTION: After the procedure is done there is a lot of maintenance and up keep with the transplanted hair.
FACT: Actually, there is the same amount of maintenance as before with the hair that was there previously.
